Hey, if you are impatient there is always Dosbox. Except I get a god-awful screeching when the Sierra logo plays at the start of LSL7 and a crash when trying with DOSBox. However, I can play it just fine using an ancient Compaq I've kept for old games (but I prefer not to use it because I really ha...

Funny. I've never even thought of ResidualVM branching out like ScummVM has. What other games would be good candidates? Other 2d/3d mixes? The Longest Journey? Syberia? Hmm.

I wonder about that. I think that scalers, especially the higher-ones, although they do well on more cartoony graphics tend to erase some details in less cartoony games by smoothing too much. I can't tell you the amount of frustration I had first playing BASS because the scaler I initially was using...

I know ScummVM deals with that situation, or at least it provides a mechanism to do so, but does ResidualVM? If it doesn't, it probably will. It's so alpha in a way it's not worth "worrying" about. I mean, remember ScummVM when it was early days? It could only run the early Scumm games so...

I also have an LSL question but before I ask there are things that I think I should get out of the way: I know SCI games are not supported as the engine is a work in progress; I know that WIP engines are unstable and buggy; and I make my own builds and know all about configure options. In other word...

Re: Can't wait

I get weird color distortion when I switch between fullscreen and windowed You mean, switching from within the game itself? Seems to be a 'normal' thing in Linux and in-game option selection isn't exactly working properly anyway. I'd suggest (if you haven't yet) that you edit .residualrc so that it...

Also, if it's an old Windows (95/98/ME) game and you have an Intel Mac, then Wine is potentially an option.

First post (oooh!)

Well, well.

Hmm. Testing. Testing.

OK, so as not to be totally useless, avatar uploading doesn't seem to work but the error messages flash by too fast to copy. (My image does meet the requirements, btw.)

I'm guessing that info won't be given until RTZ is officially supported. It won't do any harm to have all the files on your hard drive, of course, though at a minimum you won't be needing any .exe or .bat or .com files.

Too true. You guys are on a knife's edge.

That said, if Al Lowe wants to tapdance on said knife, that's his business. He's not connected to ScummVM and ScummVM isn't connected to him.

Well, if a company really wanted, they could release the source with the middle-ware left out. It would yield a half broken not compiling mess, but it would be better then no source at all I guess :) Which is sort of what you'd want them to do anyway. Having the source code without the 3rd-party st...

Didn't stop id from releasing the source code for Doom, Quake, Quake II, etc. If the owner of the code wants to release it, there's nothing to stop them. Copyright doesn't inhibit the owner of the copyright, after all.
