I can't exactly answer the 'why' myself, but if you take a look at your prefs file you should find a line reading last_set=XX.set. If it's there and you want to start with the opening cutscene you can delete it or comment it out. But you can also use it to hop around the game using the debug set inf...

Kind of suspected that. It's a fine line to walk.

Then are there any bad consquences in having data05.lab and a patched grim.tab but no patch05.bin (like crashes)? Maybe the ResidualVM page's downloads section ought to include grimdata.rar. It would be the easiest way for people using non-Windows platforms who have original-version CDs to get the p...

ResidualVM would pay attention to patch05.bin?

The thread title says LucasArts posters, after all. So things like Dark Forces and Afterlife would be kosher, too.

I could never understand why someone wanted to dub something. French movies are best in french, and english games are best in english. Well, there is the comedy value of all those old Japanese monster movies with the wildly out-of-sync dubbing. Sometimes it has to be done. Take The Longest Journey....

Debugging

I think I already know the answer, but is there a way to add items to Manny's inventory? Looking at debug keys info on the wiki and the fuller info at LucasHacks doesn't turn anything up. But it seems odd that there wouldn't be. I mean, what's the point of being able to jump to any room in the game ...

But if a person doesn't have subtitles on, grim.tab would be kind of irrelevant. Good to know (I thought it contained text but wasn't sure). Does the patch really modify data01-04 at all? The original installer didn't have an option to copy the .lab files to the hard drive. You had to do that manual...

Yes, but what about data05.lab? It's added by the patch (and grim.tab is modified) but how important is that? For me it doesn't matter. Long ago I made CDs with all the game data of what I have that's supported by ScummVM/ResidualVM so I won't ever have to worry about patching them in the future no ...

I've always assumed that all the patch modifies is the executable. I might be wrong, of course, but if I am then the patch is irrelevant to ResidualVM. Except, there is Data05.lab. I don't ever remember looking into it but I'm pretty sure the patch didn't make any changes to the original .lab files ...

Also it is a pretty known fact that prices for games skyrocket on eBay once ScummVM adds support to them. Which doesn't directly do anything for the developer and/or publisher except, of course, to prove there's still some value to be squeezed from old games and maybe induce them to start selling t...

Paramount actually has a kind of interesting attitude toward the ST franchise. Take fan films. Most studios get really, really tetchy about that sort of thing. But then there's Paramount and things like New Voyages/Phase II: they've plugged one or two of their episodes on the offical ST site, some p...

To share some recently-acquired knowledge: Add to your config file the line "last_set=" (without the quotes) and use the debug sets info from the wiki to tell ResidualVM what location in the game to start with. For example, if you put in "last_set=cb.set" the game will start on t...
