Re: How to register "The Magnetic Scrolls Collection" games?

However the features of the Magnetic Windows interface seem to make the games considerably easier . For me (as someone who's not very good at text adventures, i.e. I wasn't even able to leave the first screen in the early Space Quest games) this is very welcome: the Items in Room list and the drop-...

Re: How to register "The Magnetic Scrolls Collection" games?

When comparing the game to the original version I noticed that - even though both interpreters support the Magnetic Windows versions of the games - the user interface is the one from the old versions in any case, i.e. the compass, the map and the item list introduced with Magnetic Windows are not s...

Re: How to stop random word pop-ups on some game starts?

I believe those messages happen when you use Roland MT-32 music with the MT-32-emulator. On the real thing, the message would have popped up on the MT-32's display instead. I searched around for a bit, and came across The Quest Studios Archive site, where they show a picture of an MT-32 displaying a...

and they have been in contact with some of the original MS people and even helped rescue some old source code. I imagine they know everything anyone would think to ask. According to their web page, "Strand Games was started by Hugh Steers - a founding member and core developer of Magnetic Scro...

Re: How to register "The Magnetic Scrolls Collection" games?

If dMagnetic does turn out to have better coverage the current one, we could always look into replacing it in the future. I think it's still in development, and since one of the main selling point seems to be that it's running in a terminal window (which, judging by the screenshots, can look surpri...

Re: How to register "The Magnetic Scrolls Collection" games?

The current magnetic engine in engines/glk/magnetic is based on the re-implemented Magnetic interpreter 2.3. I don't really know too much about it's internal structures, but in theory you could add in the md5's to the detection_tables.h MAGNETIC_GAMES array, and it may also need to be added to GMS_...

Re: How to register "The Magnetic Scrolls Collection" games?

so the exact 5000 byte md5sum and filesize of your version would need to be in the detection table for it to be detected I have the DOS CD version of that collection. The file sizes of the .rsc files appear to be the same (some of the others seem to differ slightly), except I couldn't find any opti...

Re: *UPDATES!* ESRGAN AI Upscaling (HiRes packs now possible!)

For Broken Sword, I would recommend to use the Director's Cut videos as source. The videos are completely recoded from the original source and thus have way less artifacts, which should especially benefit at the explosion and the balloons. I didn't realize that, but I'm glad to see they got rid of ...

Re: Installing Phantasmagoria

Any suggestions on what files I need to fix? I'd hate to have to go through the merging process once again. I don't know if it helps, but at least in the version I have the chapter 3 intro is 3070.vmd and 3071.vmd from the third CD. If those files are there, and it still doesn't work, I have no idea.

Re: not accurate scaling?

Not COMI specific! looks like it is an AKOS issue on scummvm Right, I should have said late-era SCUMM specific. What I was trying to say was that this particular issue would not show up in the other two games specifically mentioned, Blade Runner and Discworld 2, since they use completely different ...

Re: not accurate scaling?

I do wonder though, whether this is a COMI specific issue. The OP mentions that other titles look different (Blade Runner and Discworld 2 are explicitly named as additional examples). Probably COMI-specific. My completely unsubstantiated guess would be something in or around AkosRenderer::codec1()....

Re: Did Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis predict the future?

Well, it's not exactly a new idea . There was a Swedish children's series from 1974-75 about a woman who lived in a trailer in the forest, and she had a videophone. (Probably only to embarrass her, because the whole premise of the series was that whenever she pretended to understand a word that she ...

Re: Thousands of games needing testing

Shivah from GOG also starts and the beginning seems to work. That's all of the recognised commercial AGS games I have that I know of. One unknown one was submitted to the bug tracker. I tried playing Unavowed with the open-source version of AGS when it was first released, and while it seemed to wor...

Re: AGS games run slow?

My current hypothesis is that ScummVM is doing screen rendering too frequently & redundantly. In debug builds, the method calls to split up the RGB of each pixel is taking up time, whereas with release builds it's more optimized and less noticeable. Sounds reasonable. I played through the first...

DOSBox printed the text without quotation marks in the VGA version, just like ScummVM does.
