I also would love to have a feature like this.
I play adventure games with my non-English speaking kids. I have to translate it for the on-the-fly, and if the text would always pause it would be much easier.

It could be relatively easy to export all the EGA resources, save them as VGA, and use them to replace the resources in the VGA version.
