Re: The Secret Of Monkey Island PC FLoppy VGA Vs Amiga

No Sure About That, If I Would Play The Original Version Of The Secret Of The Monkey Island Now, It Would Be... It says so in the title, so enhanced CD etc. doesn't count. The Amiga version can play samples only, while the original PC floppy versions can't play samples at all (unless you count an M...

Re: Can ScummVM do smooth background scrolling?

The mouse cursor? (which it runs at 60fps) The cursor was never affected by the scripted frame rate. On C64 and Amiga, it was controlled in a raster interrupt. It could get laggy on slow PCs, though, which didn't use hardware sprites for that. Btw, before SCUMM V7, the scrolling was always in 8 pix...

Re: Can ScummVM do smooth background scrolling?

Is possible for ScummVM, a re-implementation of the original engine, overcome the limitations of Scumm and render those games at higher framerates? Like I said, this is not a limitation of the engine, but of the game scripts. SCUMM is able to handle higher frame rates, but this was rarely done, sin...

Re: Can ScummVM do smooth background scrolling?

While SCUMM V7 and V8 games have pixel exact scrolling, it isn't exactly smooth when the game renders only at 10 fps, which is a limitation of the game scripts itself. Also, while general scrolling could be smoothed out to a higher frame rate, keep in mind that parallax scrolling is scripted and thu...

Re: The Secret of Monkey Island - Mega-CD vs ScummVM

What is the reason they couldn't take the colors straight from the Amiga version, anyway?

Re: monkey island 2 : ultimate talkie edition

while it works, it lacks sound effects When I last looked at it, most of the sounds were in a format you couldn't get any decoders for free for. For some reason, they choose to have them in a different format to the voice acting. and the beautiful music of the Special Edition of MI2 Those are not S...

The overture is MT-32 exclusive. SCUMMVM can translate it on the fly to a GM or GS device.

Re: Zak McKracken VGA Talkie?

On GOG, in the language table, there is an x at audio and a ✓ at text. So why would one expect voice acting anyway?

Re: How to get widescreen in ScummVM 2.0

However the aspect ratio correction should still be making a difference for Zak McKracken. Unless, he plays the FM-Towns version that is. Eww why would you WANT to stretch it?? :P Some games might actually look better. Some 320x200 games are designed with square pixels for some reason, and a 16:10 ...

Re: Secret of Monkey Island CD with adlib

The adlib.ims is there because the game uses Adlib for some sound effects. Also the CD version is SCUMM V5 while the disk versions use SCUMM V4, which had a different MIDI engine. And the CD version has infact no MIDI music at all. That said, I did convert the MT-32 tracks to Adlib for my Ultimate T...

Re: What ScummVM is from technical point of view?

It is an interpreter, but also an emulator, ie. it interprets game scripts and uses emulation for most of the sounds.

Re: Fate of Atlantis SFX

Scumm Revisited should be able to extract them: http://jsg.id.au/scumm/scummrev/index.html Monster.sou is basically a bunch of VOC files with an index table in front of it, so you could also open the entire file in a sound editor as an 8 bit, 11025 Hz file. The sounds in atlantis.001 are MIDI. The e...

but since the DOS executable is not included you will not be able to run these on DOS anyway
In some cases, the executable from the demo version will work, though. It may work flawless, it may work with graphic or sound issues, or it may not run at all. It's worth a try, I'd say.
