The assert is caused by the .blb file. My GOG version of Zork Zero works fine with latest ScummVM, reading the graphics from the ZORK0.MG1 file I guess, but if I add the blorb file from http://www.ifarchive.org/indexes/if-archiveXinfocomXmediaXblorb.html to the game directory, I get the isValidRect(...

How would you incorporate this code into ScummVM? Is this something you have to compile? Thanks for looking at this! Just for clarification, setting the system language to English fixed all the problems I mentioned. I think the atof() issue could be a system locale setting that eg uses comma (,) instead of dot (.) as a decimal point where that particular atof() expects a dot to function correctly (since the version.txt in fonts.dat contains the string "1.2"). Thanks for replying! I've tried setting the extra paths, deleting and recreating the settings, and copying the fonts.dat file to every location I can think of, but that doesn't mean I haven't missed something obvious. It's happened before.

A more informative error message sounds helpful!

xBRZ might simply be too slow to run single threaded.

Is there any chance a version using Intel's Thread Building Blocks would be accepted? That would at least work on Windows, Mac and Linux.
