Thanks again, I'll give that a try in the next few days.

Thanks, I'll definitely take a look at your suggestions. I'm not using MT-32 emulation, but using soundfonrt with fluidsynth for midi output is probably not much better. Actually, the soundcard in my computer is a SB Live!, which has a hardware synth, but so far I haven't made an effort to find out ...

Thanks fingolfin, that's all I needed to know. I guess I won't bother with the x11 backend then and play the games that are too slow under Linux on my (faster) Windows PC instead. :)

Compiling ScummVM with X11 backend (Ubuntu)

Hi, I've been experimenting with Linux (Ubuntu Edgy) for a while now and with the help of some of the nice people here I have managed to compile ScummVM from SVN successfully (and even to write a little script that automates the process of installing all required resources, downloading the latest ve...

Hi, I recently had the same problem myself. It's definitely not a bug un ScummVM but an element of the game's plot: In order to find the elevator you must first know that there is something underneath, and the place where you can find out this sort of thing is the map room. (I don't want to spoil to...

In case you want to check out ogg-compression anyway (after all it's not only good for ScummVM but sounds noticeably better than mp3 for regular music, too): A frequently updated overview of different versions of oggenc can be found at http://www.rarewares.org/ogg.html . Out of these I would recomme...

I guess you're right about "make deb" being broken. A simple "make" did work, though, and I ended up with a functionable binary. Since I cannot use "dpkg" to register non-debian packages, I am not able to run it from a terminal (i.e. by typing "scummvm"), even...

As it turns out, it may be a hardware issue after all. Sorry about the confusion. The machine that I was trying to compile ScummVM is an old Celeron 600, running at 900MHz. Usually, it runs quite stable in spite of being overclocked, but when I just tried running it at 600Mhz, compiling ended withou...

Compiling ScummVM on (X)ubuntu

Hi there, Having been a long-time Windows-user, I recently decided to give Linux a try by installing Xubuntu 6.06.1 on my secondary computer. The transition was relatively easy, but I have failed at successfully compiling ScummVM on my machine. What I have done so far: 1) Extract the latest version ...

Of course, I totally forgot about that. I quite enjoyed it when I played it back then.

Has anyone done a 3D adventure game from a first person point of view? Simon the Sorcerer 3D was like that, but I didn't enjoy it at all and stopped playing it largely due to its interface and buggyness. [Edit:]Speaking of Simon: Apparently a there is a sequel to the Simon series in the making. As ...

I enjoyed Grim Fandango every bit as much as the Monkey Island series, but that's a matter of taste. However, it wasn't point-and-click in that you had to control your character with the cursor keys, which occasionally made navigation a bit cumbersome. Ankh or Bone (of which I have so far only playe...

Monkey Island is without a doubt the best point and click game period. I would love to see a MI5 as long as it went back to 2D and not the shambles that MI4 was. Actually, Point-and-Click and 3D do not have to be a contradiction: I recently finished playing Ankh , which combines both, looks beautif...
