External MIDI + Roland SC-88VL Sound Canvas + Hanging notes

I just got myself an external Roland SC-88VL connected over USB-Midi. I tried Space Quest 3 with external midi as output device, and decided to close scummvm during the intro to try another game. Looks like the currently played notes stay on because they don't receive a note-off.

I'm curious, though: Is it a reimplementation or does it use some form of scripting? The wiki page mentions some bugs common between scummvm and the original, but many people used to assume that everything is hardcoded in the executable.

Tiny update: The smacker files didn't work in VLC when I tried it, but they work fine with ffmpeg, so they shouldn't be a problem.
The A.BLB in the demo just contains a single image with the Font.

- Doesn't seem to be script based, so would require the original source code or a re-implementation.
