Beneath he Steel Sky crashes

Post by flanker »

I use 2.00 firmware and 0.8.1 scummVM (I tryed also 0.8.0c).

Intro shows well and game crashes (whole PSP goes power off) when the actual game should begin. I tryed to download game from 2 different places.. same result.

Maniac Mansion works well :D if this helps knowing..

scummVM is great homebrew for PSP!

Hmm, strange.
It works fine here (both 0.8.0 and 0.8.1) on 1.00 and 1.50 firmware PSP.
Are you sure your SKY.CPT file is not corrupt?
What happens when you try the exact same set of datafiles with the PC version of ScummvM 0.8.1?

In windows scummVM crashes at the same point. So is it cpt corrupt or eiher of game files? Should I reload all of them from scummvm.org?

If it crashes after the intro it's very likely your SKY.CPT is corrupt.

Apparently the scummvm.org webserver cuts off downloads occasionally, so I suggest you grab it from here instead.

Yes it helped (at least for win version, in PSP scummvm didn't start at all this time, mabye another time it will). I downloaded cpt file from that link.

Thanks!

since the SKY.CPT is quite stable (when was the last time it got updated?) and not that big, and since that kind of error seems to be common, wouldn't it make sense to MD5-check it upon starting up?

Then again I don't know how fast memorystick-access is on the PSP...

I don't understand everyone's obsession with MD5'ing everything.
A simple size check should be more than sufficient here. I'll add this now.

heh, you're right... but then again why make it simple when you can do some funky checksum calculations? :-)

Hi
2.6 PSP latest vm. and the sky.cpt file from here. after the 3 intro screens (virgin, revo, and names) all i can do ia L+R+START , no luck with BASS. Same files work on PC ok. Any settings I need to do before running??

checksums are one of the few magic things which are left to coding.

at least as long as you don't really understand what _exactly_ the MD5 procedure is doing :)
