Day of the tentacle crashes

Post by damogran »

Hi,

i got a copy of The Day Of The Tentacle but when i try to start the game it crashes after a few seconds with the following error:

ERROR: startTalkSound: SFX file is not open

my dott dir looks like this
MONSTER.MP3
TENTACLE.000
TENTACLE.001

maybe the mp3 file is a problem.
thx a million

For a start you could try with the original MONSTER.SOU file to see if it still crashes. If it doesn't crash then the MONSTER.MP3 file is probably corrupt and you'll need to recompress it.

I know it probably makes no difference but which OS are you using? Do other games work or do you just have DOTT?

To the best of my knowledge, ScummVM won't ever attempt to open any file called MONSTER.MP3 anyway. You shouldn't rename the file after you compress it.

probably another of those incidents where somebody dragged the monster.sou on lame.exe, thus compressing the whole datafile like it was one huge wav

(edit: I'm not making this up, http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?p=483 )

You're supposed to compress monster.sou with ScummVM's tool. Read the manual first please :?
