Really stupid question re: Monkey Island 1

I can play it quite happily using ScummVM, but I can't figure out how to save it. I am probably being really thick, but I have tried every key on the keyboard and nothing seems to work.

Can someone please help?

Nope ... tried that, it doesn't do anything

The rest of the game plays fine - its just annoying that I have to restart every time!!
