Simon the Sorcerer HELP!

I just purchased the simon the sorcerer game and I am completely clueless on how to make it work. I downloaded the patch, unzipped it and all that. I don't know how to use SCUMM and I really want to play this game. When it runs on my computer the graphics are all crazy and Simon starts out on the top of the screen instead of the bottom. The credits role on top of him and then everything goes into jumbled pieces of color! Any help would really be appreciated!
