Sam & Max - crash after loading savegame

Post by whiteRabbit »

I downloaded Savegames from this location:
http://www.tentakelvilla.de/download/savegames.html

Then I put them in the scummvm-folder and started scummvm and sam & max and tried to load one of the savegames

The following error appears in the command-window:
WARNING: Game was saved with different gamedata - you may encounter problems.!
Assertion failed: 0 <= idx && idx < res.num[type], file scumm/saveload.cpp, line
1043

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
System:
Windows XP

Tested ScummVM-Versions:
0.8.0
0.7.1
0.7.0

Thanks for any help!

Those are probably saves for German versions of the games. Is your version of Sam and Max in German?

But still it is different version. We can do nothing about it. That warning serves a purpose. You just tried to fuel your car with kerosene when instruction says "gas engine". No wonder it doesn't go.

@sev: what do you mean by "it is different version"?
the savegames are a german version and my sam&max is a german version.
The point is: The Warning doesn't explain, what could be the cause of the crash.

by the way: there should be no difference between german and english versions of the game, except the language-files. so the scummvm-savegames for german and english version should be equal, shouldn't they?

Say, it may be CD vs Floppy situation.

It does. I think it's clear from it that saves may be not compatible. In this case they are. We can do nothing with this incompatibility, i.e. use at your own risk.

Why? There could. They, for example, could modify some scripts, and single variable insertion will make saves incompatible. A good example of this is Full Throttle. There exist 2 incompatible English versions. We call them version a and version b. Version b has one extra variable in the middle.
