No Speech in Freddy Pharkas

Post by philthethrill »

I bought the CD version of Freddy Pharkas from Amazon but there's no speech in the game when I start it with ScummVM. I did a large install to copy all of the files except for the speech files onto the hard drive. I couldn't copy the speech files from the CD so I made an iso and extracted the files using ISOBuster to the folder where the game was installed.

You don't need/want to run the installer for any game you're running with ScummVM. For SCI games, just copy the entire CD to a directory on your HD, click add game in ScummVM, point it to the directory you copied everything, and it should be added. More detailed instructions are here: http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Datafiles#SCI

I did what you said, but I got a message saying "ScummVM could not find any game in the specified directory!"

If that is the case, then there's probably two possibilities. Either you were sold a bogus/bootleg copy, or you have a version that has not yet been added to ScummVM. In the former case it will never work with ScummVM, but assuming it's a legit copy then the ScummVM team would likely be interested in adding detection of it... Run ScummVM via a console (open a command prompt - cmd.exe - navigate to ScummVM's directory, run ScummVM) and try to add the game again. If it's an unknown version an MD5 hash should appear in the console window, which you can report on the bug tracker to have it added.

If you copied the whole CD, what directory did you broswe ScummVM to and tried to add the game?

If you can, show us your CD structure

I made a mistake. I browsed ScummVM to the wrong folder. I chose the folder where I copied the CD files to. This time I browsed it to the Freddy folder which contains the Sierra.exe file and it worked. There's speech and everything else.

Here's the CD structure.
