I just updated my Windows 7 ScummVM to 1.8.0 (from 1.6.0) and tried to run The Curse of Monkey Island (Monkey Island 3). I've played this game before, but now there are no action/verb icons at the bottom of the screen (pickup, examine, talk, use, etc.). It's been a few years, but I'm pretty sure it had those icons when I last played it.
As an experiment, I loaded Monkey Islands 1 and 2, and they had the action boxes at the bottom.
Is there some setting to enable/disable action icons? All options settings for the game are default.
The help screen shows hotkeys for various actions, but that falls short of using the icon verbs.
Thanks,
Kevin
Missing action icons?

It is true that Monkey Island 1 and 2 had the verb bar at the bottom. But Monkey Island 3 never had that. It had the verb "coin" instead (like Full Throttle).
This is nothing to do with ScummVM or its version. This is how the original game was.
To activate the verb coin, hover the mouse over a clickable thing (so that its text is on-screen) and then click and hold.
