Gabriel Knight 2 merging files

Hi!

Not sure if this is a bug or because i have misunderstood something.
When merging the files for the GK2 cds, 3 files differs in size:
1. cd1: 2120.vmd (2,5 MB), cd4: 2120.vmd (2,7 MB)
2. cd6: 30960.rbt differs in size from some earlier cd
3. cd6: 32960.rbt differs in size from some earlier cd

The was no note about this in the wiki and found nothing about it in the bug tracker.

The wiki actually has this to say for SCI32 games with multiple CDs (which includes Gabriel Knight 2):

quote:
It should be safe to replace any other files from later CDs that were copied already from earlier CDs, except in Phantasmagoria 1 (see below).
I understand this as meaning you can take any of the files and it should be OK. I am not very familiar with SCI games but I saw some discussions indicating that for whatever reason Sierra had reencoded some videos, which results in files for the same video appearing on multiple CDs to have a different size.

Might be so. Smile
Weird but Sierra was weird when it came to file naming logic.

Sierra was actually very good about it compared to other companies. See how nearly all sierra games can be turned 'no-cd' by just copying files and editing a cfg file. The same can't be said for many other multi-cd games of any era.
