Translating the Amiga version of Flight of the Amazon Queen

Post by volatile void »

Hello ScummVM forums,

my name is Thomas and this is my very first post (so please be gentle).

Over at the A1K Amiga community, some people are dreaming about a fully localized, real Amiga version of FOTAQ and I volunteered to have a look. ;) Thanks to the great code base of the ScummVM Queen Engine I was able to understand most of how the dialogue and cutaway files work, still I have some open questions:

1) I completely dissected one dialogue file from the game and it seems that one part of the dialogue tree isn't used by ScummVM. :? Is that really the case or am I missing something here?
2) At the end of every file there are lots of zeroes and I don't know where they come from. Do these areas have a special meaning? How is their length calculated?

I put together a PDF file here which illustrates what I mean.

I know about Vag's localization efforts from ten years ago. Unfortunately, his tools don't work so great on newer versions of Windows let alone on other platforms that's why I'm currently working on a Python tool to do the job.

Many thanks in advance!

Bests
Thomas
