Gabriel Knight 1 (Steam version)

Post by fetito666 »

Ummm, ScummVM does not recognize Gabriel Knight 1 (Steam version). It's the talkie SVGA version.

Is there a way to force ScummVM to run GK?

  • Realize the game isn't supported yet, and so you'll need to use a daily build of ScummVM
  • Make sure you're using the files from the original one (495700) and not the 20th Anniversary remake (262000)
  • The game files ScummVM wants are in the GK1 subdirectory, so point it at that

Funny observation: The Steam version of the game contains an ISO file called GK1.GOG :D

I had better results (menu music not messed up) by extracting that ISO into a directory and pointing ScummVM at it, than just pointing ScummVM at the GK1 directory.

Will there ever be support for the 20th Anniversary Edition?

The 20th Anniversary Edition uses a completely different engine (Unity I believe) and is 3D. So the chances of it being supported by ScummVM one day are rather slim (I don't want to write 'never' as this might come back to bite me in a few decades :-; ). It would more be within the scope of ResidualVM, but I would not expect it to be supported there anytime soon either.
