Wii audio backend

Post by aculotarpa »

Just a curiosity: wich audio backend the Wii port use? To mee, it seems the Adlib one. There is no kind of midi sinthesizer by default on the console, is'nt it? And, I suppose, no hope for a soundfont integration in the libogc...

Adlib emulation is in ScummVM itself.
The Wii hardware doesn't support MIDI or the like, so a software synthesizer is the only way. MT32 emulation is included in the Wii version, the Gamecube does not have enough memory for it.

And before anyone asks: no, i do not plan to port timidity :P

ScummVM's support for TiMidity didn't work very well for me (under Linux) last time I tried it anyway. Perhaps FluidSynth is a more realistic option, but I have no idea how little or much work that would be.

FluidSynth is not without problems either, but it's worked pretty well most of the time when I've tried it. I haven't tried it very often though, since my sound card already offers good hardware MIDI support.

MT32 on Wii?

Post by kryo »

Is MT32 available on Wii somehow?

Upon launching a game (Kyrandia 1) it seems to be initialising the MT32 emulator, but then crashes. I have version 0.13.0. Am I missing or misunderstanding something?

You need the MT-32 ROMs. Works fine for me (if you want to call the current MT-32 emulation "fine").
