Sam & Max speech promblems

Post by ducky »

I searched the forums and was unable to find this question/answer anywhere, so I'm asking...

I've been trying to play Sam & Max using scummvm, but have been having issues with the speech in the game. During the opening sequence, all of the sound works perfectly... there's music, sound effects, AND speech, but once the game itself starts, there is no longer speech, just text. I opened the game settings, and Enable Speech *is* checked, so I can't figure out what the problem is - especially since the speech worked just fine in the beginning.
Unless I'm being stupid and not realizing that I'm playing a version of the game that doesn't support speech? But if it didn't, I can't see why the option is there in the game settings...

Anyway, here's my information...
Game: Sam & Max Hit the Road, Floppy Disk Version
OS: Windows XP (home) SP2
CPU: AMD Athlon XP, 1.6 Ghz
RAM: 512MB
Soundcard: (Onboard) VIA AC97 Enhanced Audio Controller

Well there's only speech during the intro in the floppy disk version.

You need to buy the CD-ROM Talkie version for full speech throughout the game.

The CD version weighs about 200MB compared to 10MB of the floppy version. So you can see there's a big difference.
