How to get Broken Sword 2 to work on PS2 Scumm

Post by pioneerman2k1 »

I dont know how to run Broken Sword 2 (Baphomets Fluch 2) on the PS2 Port of ScummVM. When i choose the Directory of the game, it says, i cant find a game in there. Do i need to patch some files or doesnt it work at all on the ps2 port?

Thanks in advance!

I successfully ran the german version of Broken Sword 2 using the following scummvm.ini file (muste be in root of your CD/DVD together with scummvm.elf):

Code: Select all

[scummvm]
master_volume=255
multi_midi=false
music_driver=auto
music_volume=255
native_mt32=false
sfx_volume=255
speech_volume=255
subtitles=true
versioninfo=0.8.2

[sword2]
description=Baphomets Fluch 2 (German/DOS)
gameid=sword2
language=de
path=cdfs:/sword2/
For testing purposes I always try to run the games with the windows version of scummVM before burning it for the PS2. With this method you can be sure that you have copied all necessary files for starting the game.
And please check that your directory name for Broken Sword2 has a maximum of 8 characters in length and don't use any special characters or spaces. E.g. just name the directory "sword2"

Ok, i give it a try.
But i have another question. The game Broken
sword 1 is placed on two disks with the folders
speech in it. Both CDs has this folder with one
file called speech.clu. How to handle with these
files? They are different in space. about 30MB i
think. What file i should use? From Cd1 oder 2?
Or did i have to copy both files into one file?

This is explained in Section 3.7.1 of ScummVM's readme file.

The Readme- File Says:

5.6.2) Broken Sword 1:
------ ---------------
For this game, you'll need all of the files from the clusters directories on both CDs. You will also need the speech.clu files from the speech directories, but since they are not identical you'll need to rename them speech1.clu and speech2.clu for CD 1 and 2 respectively.

In addition, you will need a music subdirectory with all of the files from the music subdirectories on both CDs. Some of these files appear on both CDs, but in these cases they are either identical or, in one case, so nearly identical that it makes little difference.

ScummVM does not support the original cutscene files, so there is no need to copy them.

Well..
My Problem is.. No Speech and no Music. I Already read the readme..

From the directory where you start Broken Sword from, create three folders named

CLUSTERS
MUSIC
SPEECH

and copy all appropriate files from your first CD to these directories. Rename the file speech.clu in speech directory to speech1.clu

Now copy all appropriate files from your second CD to the directories, overwrite all existing ones and rename speech.clu to speech2.clu

You should end up with following structure:

Code: Select all

(DIR)/sword1/
----------------------------------
candle.mp2
candle.ogg
credits.mp2
credits.ogg
etc.

(DIR)/sword1/CLUSTERS/
----------------------------------
COMPACTS.CLU
GENERAL.CLU
IRELAND.CLU
MAPS.CLU
PARIS1.CLU
PARIS2.CLU
PARIS3.CLU
PARIS4.CLU
SCOTLAND.CLU
SCRIPTS.CLU
SPAIN.CLU
SWORDRES.RIF
SYRIA.CLU
TEXT.CLU
TRAIN.CLU

(DIR)/sword1/MUSIC/
----------------------------------
10M1.MP3
10M2.MP3
10M3.MP3
10M4.MP3
11M1.MP3
11M2.MP3
11M3.MP3
11M4.MP3
11M7.MP3
11M8.MP3
etc.

(DIR)/sword1/SPEECH/
----------------------------------
SPEECH1.CL3
SPEECH2.CL3
Please notice, that I compressed the music and speech files into mp3 format, so the extension differs from the original files. In addtion, I included the recompressed cutscenes into the sword directory.

At last create a scummvm.ini in your root of your DVD or CD (the same place where scummvm.elf has to be copied) and include following lines (edit path field to match your directory):

Code: Select all

[sword1]
description=Broken Sword 1 (English/DOS)
gameid=sword1
language=en
path=cdfs:/sword1/
Worked for me without problems. Before burning the game to DVD, try to start it with the corresponding scummVM version for your operating system on your computer. In case of an error, scummVM will output the information to it's console.
