ScummVM 0.9.0 pre-release

Post by knakos »

Dear All,

With the 0.9.0 release coming up in the next few weeks and continuing in the testing season spirit we present to you the svn 0.9.0 build available for download. It includes all the features proposed in the recent test build.

There are a couple of gotchas for this specific build. First and most important, the executable will run on devices with at least 2003SE OS. This means that it won't run on 2002 devices. There is a good reason for that. The codebase of scummvm has become increasingly complex between 0.8.2 and 0.9.0 with the end result that the microsoft compiler which supports 2002 devices crashes when compiling. We are working hard to provide a build for those users either by cutting down on the features or, by compiling using other tools. Being a 2002 user myself I am especially interested in this so we will work it out.

Second, there have been some changes in the scummvm.ini file. Specifically, the sections [pocketpc] and [smartphone] are dropped, and all the respective keys for these sections should be moved in the [scummvm] section. Please backup you scummvm.ini file before editing it or deleting it so it can be recreated.

Being an svn release, you should consider this unstable software. But we are releasing it so we can get some feedback before making the official 0.9.0 release. You can help improve the stability of scummvm by running this build and reporting failure (and success). You should post any bugs/crashes using the official bug tracker. With each report please include the name of your device, it's display resolution as well as the version of the OS you're running to help us debug.

Not really, sorry :( at least in a short period of time.

I have an Acer35 whith 2003 SE but I'm considering to downgrade it to 2003 because of problems whith TomTom. (It takes about 15 minutes to catch GPS signal)

So I will lost everything , also I will have to backup the SD because I have to format it to place the downgrade on it. And as I don't want to restore a backup done whith 2003 SE in a 2003 I will have to reinstall everything manually. I have to decide if I can live whith the 15 minutes delay or no...

If ScummVM will not work in 2003 FE then it will be another reason not to downgrade and wait for some patch from Tomtom or from Acer...

Finally, thanks a lot for this great port!

Hallo,

I have testet this Version on my Dell Axim X50v (VGA Device) with WM5 Update.

Most Games are starting without problems, load some old savegames runs well. This includes e.g. CoMI, Sam&Max, DOTT, The Dig, Full Throttle, Monkey Siland VGA, Monkey Island 2, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, all games are using ogg compressed speech (if available).

I have problems starting games with CD Audio Tracks, which are compressed with ogg vorbis, e.g. Monkey Island CD Version or Zak MacKracken FMTOWNS. As soon as the game trys to play music, ScummVM crashes.

The scummvmCrash from Monkey Island CD:

I did not try to play the Games without ogg compression so far.

Starting Broken Sword 2 causes a "Cannot find SCRIPTS.CLU", while starting Broken Sowrd 1 leads to a ScummVM Crash which forces me to perform a softreset of the Deivce. The scummvmCrash for ths case:

BTW: The new GUI looks really nice on the Axim. But there is a minor "optical" Bug:
Im using the AdvMame2x Scaler for my 320x200 games. Calling the Menu in such a games causes ScummVM to show the Menu only on the upper left corner of the Game. Please understand me right, its hard to explain: All 640x480 Pixels of my Axim are used, the Images with the menu is shown in Fullscreen, the Menu has the correct size and is on the correct place. But the Picture in the Background - from the game - is only the upper left part of the original screen, scaled to the full size of the window. For VGA Games (CoMI) this does not happen, everything is ok.

kind regards

We would like to ask both of you to submit regular bug reports using the bug tracker (include the crashdumps please).

Frank : The first two dumps relate to the same bug, which I can reproduce and related to the ogg compression. The third must relate to the bsword engine. File them seperately. The screen rescaling issue you report is known and cannot be avoided right now without some major restructuring of the overlay code.

EdDammer: Please file a bug report as well.

Thank you both for your input.

Testing on Qtek 9100 (WinMobile 5) with Legend of Kyrandia
Everything playable, except that gray background (interface) and OPTIONS button doesn't show :(

I am tried on win32 svn build with same data files and everything looks fine.

Hello,

I found out the following: The "high_sample_rate=true" Setting causes Simon 1 & 2 (both Windows / Full Speech) to crash. I will file also a Bug Report. Without High_sample_rate they are running nice (but it sounds awful). Of cause im Using my Axim X50v with WM5.
