I'm usually a big fan of interpolation shaders(pixellate, sharp-bilinear, AANN etc), pretty much the only way to get old DOS stuff to look decent imo. But I honestly can't tell if ScummVM has something similar on by default, because the games look pretty damn perfect in full-screen(ratio corrected) ...
