SCI Win/Dos

when I add my Sierra games, I often get the option to choose between Win and Dos versions. Which is the preferred option? What, if any, are the differences?

I've played both versions. I always played Windows version until XP, and then switched to the Dos version out of necessity. Maybe the only difference I can think of is that the performance of the Dos version is slightly slower cause it uses Vesa instead of DirectX. But especially on my machine, that...

Windows version doesn't seem to work on XP... for me it doesn't even get into the game before it crashes with an error.

But if you install the Dos version of Discworld 2, it works fine, together with VDMSound.
