Unable to open

hi, I am fairly new to all this.

I got all excited after discussing day of the tentacle with a friend a remembered I still had the DOTT/Sam and Max CD version of the game. He told me to download scummvm which I have done.

however when I try to launch it I get this message:

'Warning: Unable to open configuaration file: c:\windows\scummvm,ini!'

any help? and please be blunt and treat me like an idiot because I am with these things!

RE: Unable to open

If you're new to some open software, please, learn habit of reading FAQ as the first thing. ScummVM is not an exception. http://www.scummvm.org/faq.php

RE: Unable to open

Apparently you missed section 4.13, then... :-)

4.13. I get
"WARNING: Unable to open configration file C:\windows\scummvm.ini!"
Make sure you have enough permissions to write in c:\windows directory.

RE: Unable to open

it may also be as simple that this message only appears the first time you run ScummVM.

After adding games and exiting, the scummvm.ini is being created, so you won't see that error any more.

RE: Unable to open

I just downloaded this program also, and after several attempts to allow w
riting to the c:\windows folder, windows XP automatically sets it back to Read-only.
quote:
"After adding games and exiting, the scummvm.ini is being created, so you won't see that error any more."
clem do you mean installing a game, such as Monkey Island 1? Because scummvm does nothing if it can not open the file, at least on this computer

hehe I've read several threads with users asking why it has to write to the c:\windows folder,,,I ask the same question, why not just the scummvm folder?

RE: Unable to open

oh, didn't know that it wouldn't let you run scummvm if it can't open that file

there's still the possibility to use a different directory for scummvm's ini file, eg with the parameter:

-c
"C:\scummvm.ini"
which would try to load/save the ini file to the root directory of drive c

RE: Unable to open

This is not a fatal error.

Any problems you have related to ScummVM not starting are a seperate unrelated issue.

RE: Unable to open

sure you can (you can also play the DOS version in DOSBox under linux or MacOS) - but you're missing out on the graphics filters then :)
